Education Week Covers the OCCUPY DOE Event

Headline: “Occupy” Action Critiques Testing, Targets Ed Department.

Education Week, the nation’s premier source of information on education and education policy, highlighted this weekend’s “Occupy the DOE” event in Washington D.C.:

Dubbed “Occupy the DOE”—for its target, the U.S. Department of Education—the event is being portrayed as a way to build on last summer’s Save Our Schools event, which drew people to the nation’s capital for a high-profile demonstration and meetings focusing on many of the same themes. The goal of the event, said Tim Slekar, is “to make sure anybody who attends leaves with a deep understanding of what the Opt Out movement is about—understanding the nature of punitive high-stakes testing and realizing that the only way to stop it is to demand that it stops.”
