SOS calls upon the people to participate in this collaborative brainstorming and platform writing session on assessment.
- What is the role of assessment in curriculum?
- How does assessment fit and what constitutes it: authentic, reflective of curriculum, integral facet of curriculum?
We seek children, parents, grandparents, primary caregivers, teachers, teaching assistants, PTAs/PTOs, principals, assistant principals, administrative staff, superintendents, school bus drivers, maintenance staff, cafeteria workers, paraprofessionals, professors, researchers, and any concerned citizen who wishes to volunteer to represent the diverse range of school communities.
As part of SOS, your personal experience and expertise is needed to help compose a democratically-created platform that can be presented to policy makers across the nation.
Liz Hallmark – Save Our Schools Steering Committee Representative
Elizabeth Hallmark, PhD, teaches courses in arts theory and practice at the University of Rochester. She was a teaching artist in schools for over 20 years, designing professional development for K-12 teachers through her work with Aesthetic Education Institute, Empire State Partnerships, and Wolf Trap Early Learning through the Arts. From 2000-2005, she directed Hallmark Danceworks, and was the Rochester coordinator of interdisciplinary workshops for adult artists through The Field, a New York City arts service organization. Hallmark has received numerous grants from New York State Council on the Arts, The Field, and Rochester Area Community Foundation for her work in performing arts and arts-in-education.
Rosalie Friend, Ph.D. – Save Our Schools Information Coordinator –New York
Rosalie Friend, Ph.D. is a retired educational psychologist specializing in the cognitive processes of reading. She taught assessment, educational psychology, and reading instruction to teacher candidates at City University of New York after teaching reading and study strategies to incoming freshmen.
